A Look Into Tarot Cards

With a quick google search I was able to find hundreds of in-person and online stores that I could purchase tarot cards at this very moment. Places like Urban Outfitters and Neiman Marcus were in the slew of retailers. How could something thats supposedly so magically and could write literally tell me my future be sold at a teenager's favorite shop at the mall?

To get down to the basics, Tarot Cards are a pack of playing cards that originated in 15th century Europe. They consist of 78 cards total. This is further divided into two parts: The Major Arcana and the Minor Arcana. The major deal with more universal, macro-scale things it seems, while the minor deal with the more day to day occurrences.

While trying to fully research what the purpose of tart cards really is, I kept running into mixed opinions. One website would say for predictions, the other for guidance, the next for self exploration, the next to answer just about any question you had! Regardless, it seems the cards truly contain some sort of magic, despite the intent behind it.

One website describes the magic behind the card as a touch into the deeper consciousness that already holds the answers we see. It states, "Because the tarot contains every facet of human experience, each card is a symbol, a representation of something else, something personal to you. These symbols touch places conscious thought can’t reach, helping us to access the wisdom that is buried deep within us, in our subconscious or super-conscious." Interesting... right? I don't know if personally I would trust art (very beautiful art might I add) on a card to dive into my super-conscious and answer my burning questions of life.

I started becoming more interested with tarot card readings because of the ever so famous Tik Tok. Every once and a while, I'll be scrolling and come across a reading that always starts with "stop scrolling, this message is specifically for you." Oh, really? Me? Woooow. It proceeds to tell me that my soulmate is right around the corner, or my ex misses me, or I'm going to have the best day of my life next Friday. But all this will only happen if I "lock it in" by liking and following. Suspicious.

Tarot cards are still so interesting me and something I want to explore more. For now, I won't be going down to the local Neiman Marcus in Clearfork and ask for a deck or probably believe the next Tik Tok video I scroll past, but I'll continue to look into what makes the magic so special and can't help but wonder if just an ounce of it may hold some truth.

Comments

  1. Thanks for your tarot research. The comment that the cards represent every facet of human experience is quite interesting, and seems quite accurate. The readings, as in interpretations, are really left up to the person getting the reading. Like the mountain road heading downward car, the meaning could either be good or bad. What's also interesting about your post is how ubiquitous the cards are. You can find them everywhere. Amazon offers hundreds.
